Comment:
Echinococcus granulosus adult worm as found in the definitive host intestine (canines). These worms are 3 - 8 mm long and the rostellum has 30 - 36 hooks in 2 rows while the scolex has 4 suckers. There are usually only 3 proglottids - 1 immature, 1 mature and 1 gravid. The eggs are morphologically identical to the eggs of all Taenia spp. To examine: Cestodes need to be relaxed in tap water and fixed with boiling 10 percent formalin, they need to be stained with Mayers haemalum, dehydrated, cleared and mounted. Measurements are vital for id of parasites.
